Dear Mr. Carney,

On behalf of the Leaders’ Debates Commission, I hereby invite you to participate in the two leaders’ debates we are organizing for the federal election campaign.

The two debates will take place at the Maison de Radio-Canada in Montréal, Québec. The French debate is scheduled for April 16 at 8 p.m. EDT and the English debate for April 17 at 7 p.m. EDT.

The Commission published its participation criteria for the next leaders’ debates on January 14, 2025.

Your party meets criterion (i) and criterion (ii). This means that your party was represented in the House of Commons by a Member of Parliament elected under its banner on the date the general election was called, and the party received a level of national support of at least 4% in national public opinion polls 28 days before the date of the general election.

Invitations are being sent to the leaders of political parties which met the criteria on March 31, 2025, 28 days before the date of the general election scheduled for April 28, 2025.

The Commission’s Order in Council requires that this invitation as well your response be made public.

The Leaders’ Debates Commission is looking forward to your participation in these debates, which are democratic exercises. They belong to the voting public and play an essential role in the health of Canada's democracy.
